Gelatin Gummies

Gelatin is an amazing health supplement with a wide range of benefits. According to NCBI, it's a powerhouse source of glycine, an amino acid with proven anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

In addition, gelatin effectively balances excess methionine and counteracts the inflammatory effects of consuming only muscle meat. It supports digestive health and is excellent for your hair, skin, and nails.

Furthermore, it aids in healing the gastrointestinal system and can assist with conditions such as IBS, intestinal disorders, colitis, and Crohn’s disease. Gelatin can improve sleep quality, stabilize blood glucose levels, and increase insulin sensitivity (Kate Deering, How to Heal Your Metabolism). It is an essential protein source for various bodily functions and supports liver function and detoxification.

I make it often, and my children enjoy it because they think it’s “healthy candy.”

Find the recipe below.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of fruit juice (I use grape juice and add elderberry syrup) but go with whatever juice you like

  • 1/4 to 1/3 cup of Gelatin (I purchase mine from iHerb)

  • 1/3 cup (or more) honey or maple syrup if you need

Directions

  1. Pour the fruit juice into a large stovetop skillet. Using a skillet instead of a pot helps thinly spread the Gelatin, preventing clumping.

  2. Bloom the Gelatin: Evenly sprinkle the Gelatin over the juice without turning on the burner. Let it bloom for 5 minutes. Watch this video to learn more.

  3. After blooming, turn the burner to low. Allow the Gelatin to dissolve, occasionally whisking if needed.

  4. Once the Gelatin has fully dissolved, add your sweetener of choice. Whisk until it is completely dissolved and fully incorporated.

  5. Pour the mixture into a gummy mold, glass food storage container, or a 9x9 pan.

  6. It should set in an hour or two. Enjoy a piece or two a day.
